About Small Estate Map
Small Estate Map is a free, plain-English guide for families who need to collect or transfer a person's property after a death without full probate (the court process that appoints someone to settle an estate). For each state it shows the small estate limit by date of death, the waiting period, who can use the affidavit or the court shortcut, the forms, how to transfer a car title, what happens to bank accounts and real estate, and where to find free legal help. Free tools check a total against the state's limit and write a letter to a bank or a balance request, and a checklist, in your browser.
We are not a law firm, not a court and not a government agency. We don't represent anyone, we don't file anything and we never contact courts, banks or agencies for you. We never tell anyone that an estate qualifies: the bank, the DMV or the court decides. We link to official sources: state law, state courts and their self-help pages, the DMV and legal aid.
